Our Story
Okapi Technologies was founded with the mission to make affordable residential solar energy accessible to homeowners in Malaysia and Southeast Asia. In December 2022, we launched a 10-year residential solar financing product, aligned with the NEM program, partnering with forward-thinking solar installers to promote sustainability.
By June 2023, we introduced our instant approval financing product, allowing Partner Installers to obtain immediate credit decisions for residential customers via an online portal. This innovation has increased conversion rates, shortened sales cycles, and enabled our partners to focus on value-added activities like system design and consultation.
Our financing model leverages the power generated by the solar systems, offering homeowners instant savings without any upfront costs. As the leading provider of solar leasing solutions, we are doing our part in driving Malaysia towards a more sustainable future.

Co-Founder
Lai Zhern Yung
Zhern Yung spent more than a decade of his career in finance (Citigroup) and tech startups (Ninja Van) where he focused on strategy and fundraising roles. During the pandemic, he started to help friends and family pay for solar installations at their homes, which eventually led to the founding of Okapi.
This is in fact a homecoming of sorts for Zhern Yung - while at university, his Masters' Project on Luminescent Solar Concentrators was awarded the Departmental Prize for Best Final Year Project in 2012.
Zhern Yung graduated with an MEng in Electronic Engineering with Nanotechnology from University College London.
